Paul Williams a possible opponent for Manny Pacquiao?

Paul Williams' trainer has seemingly thrown his fighter's name into the ring as a possible opponent for Manny Pacquiao in the future.

Currently Williams is set to challenge Sergio Gabriel Martinez for the WBC welterweight title, which he is the favorite to win. The fight takes place on December the 5th, and was eventually made after Kelly Pavlik pulled out of fighting Williams for a third time.

Asked about a fight with Pacquiao Williams' trainer George Peterson said:

Sure! And Paul can make 145 - he's made it twice before. So there's no problem there. But I doubt we will see that fight happen. But Paul would love it, that I guarantee. Like I say, he's a throwback. People have got to realize that. Not only is Paul the number-one fighter no-one wants to fight - he fights the other fighters nobody wants to fight!

Well, there you go. I know the Pacquiao fight is a fight a lot of people would love to see. And Paul never runs from anyone. Who else will fight Pacquiao if not Paul Williams? That's the problem, though - none of these top fighters are in any rush to face Paul. Hopefully next year, someone in the pound-for-pound ratings will come forward and accept a fight with us.

Williams would certainly make for an interesting challenge for Pacquiao, standing at 6,2 Williams is one of the tallest fighters in the division and his difficult style would pose significant problems for the much shorter Pacquiao. Not to mention the fact that with the right weight cutting and gaining, Williams would be a lot heavier than Pacquiao at the time of the fight. Whether Pacquiao's speed would let him get in close and leave Williams swinging at thin air or whether Williams would pick him off would be the biggest question.

On the plus side, the fight would be an easy sell to the fans (not as easy as Mayweather, but then nothing else would be either). Not only this but Williams who has struggled to get big fights at Welterweight and would probably be eager to get the fight made without any complications. Williams also had decent but not great power, which Pacquiao wouldn't have to worry about too much.
